Consumer Guide
Introduction to Guide
The Hearing Place likes to share the 2009 Consumer's Guide to Hearing Aids with everyone we can. This publication provides an invaluable third party review of hearing aids from all manufacturers in the USA. You also will find a very useful overview about hearing aids, with numerous articles and tips. And, in the back is a glossary of hearing aid terms. So, when you take the next step, you will be able to ask questions more confidently.
Here is a quick summary of the articles in the 2008 issue:
“What You Should Expect from Hearing Aids” – You will learn what hearing aids can and cannot do and what expectations are reasonable for improving your hearing.
'Frequently Asked Questions '– Many of us do have the same questions about hearing aids, so this article is a great start in your information gathering process.
'How the Ear Works' – Looking at an annotated picture of the human ear will give you a very good idea of what is going on in your ear and why you may not be hearing as well as you'd like.
'Hearing Aid Styles Defined' - The style of a hearing aid references where the hearing aid goes in your ear. Do you want one that goes behind the ear, all the way in the ear, or somewhere in between? This summary will get you thinking, and your specific type of hearing loss will guide your ultimate decision.
'Why We Hear Better with Two Ears' – If both of our ears look and act alike, why do we really need both of them to hear as well as we'd like? There are seven significant reasons.
'Directional Microphone Technology' – A directional microphone in a hearing aid improves user satisfaction dramatically. Why is this and how does a directional microphone work?
'Open Fit Hearing Aids Described' – Another major advancement in hearing aid technology, the 'open fit' is winning many customers over. If your hearing loss is mild to moderate, this fit is one to consider.
'Analysis of Brands and Models' – This four page chart is organized by model and features. It is excellent for education and reference and allows you to easily compare brands you may have heard of with those that are new to you.
